About

What we value

We believe that each person living in inner peace is the beginning of world peace. We want to live with the wisdom of the ancients, nurturing the seeds of inner peace; creating a rainbow between each other and nature.

Yakushima has a “Charter of Yakushima,” created with the collective agreement of its residents, aiming to preserve its precious natural environment.

We embrace the intent of the Yakushima Charter and work in harmony with Yakushima for all who have lived, are living, and will live in the future – for the children.

Our Team

Takashi Kadokami / Yakushima Guide

Born 1991, Kobe, Japan. Father of two children.

Graduated from the University of Shimane. During his studies, he backpacked to more than a dozen countries. He was struck by seeing children working in poor conditions, and later worked for a domestic NGO EKMATTRA in Bangladesh to support children’s education.

From 2015 to 2020, he worked as a social worker supporting the social rehabilitation of young people with developmental and mental disabilities, including those who have never attended school and are unemployed in Japan. Through providing psychological care for them and companionship support for their family members, he became interested in how people can build peaceful relationships with themselves and others without self-sacrifice, and started exploring yoga, NVC (non-violent communication) and mental models.

From 2018, he has been working Jibun Kyoso Juku, a school for parents and children based on the human perspective of living from self-love and wholeness, organized by LLT, Inc.

Later, on a journey of inner integration, he visited the Peruvian Amazon forest and participated in a plant medicine ceremony organised by the indigenous people. He received a vision to ‘work directly with the earth’ and experienced a life of connection to nature and the earth.

After this experience, he moved to Yakushima with his family in 2021 in search of a place where he could feel most connected to the earth.

Right after moving to Yakushima, he started a guiding service to connect people with nature as a step towards working directly with the earth. From 2023, he began to receive about the wisdom of the ancient Mayan civilization and the Native Americans in North America, and experienced that humans are also like Mother Earth, full of nature within spirits.

Today, together with Yakushima, the small planet itself, he is creating a journey where each person can reconnect with inner peace and nature, flowering people’s inner-potential.

He offers camps based on adventure education for children and tailor-made tours and retreats for youth and adults, based on the wisdom and experiences he has been receiving in his life.

OUR COMMITMENT

Criteria for Tour Cancellation or Postponement

General Guidelines for All Tours

  • If heavy rain, flood, or storm warnings are issued and applied to the tour area at the time of departure.
  • If the tour area falls within the storm zone of a typhoon.

Note: This guideline is strictly followed by all tour guides and companies in Yakushima.

Trekking

When the routes or trails related to trekking tours are closed by Yakushima city due to natural conditions, the tour may be canceled, postponed, or its content altered.

Kuromidake Tour

  • If the wind speed at 2,000m above Yakushima is 18 m/s or higher, or is forecasted to reach this level at the start or during the tour, the guide will turn back at Hananoego.

Yakushima Traverse Tour

  • If the wind speed at 2,000m above Yakushima is 18 m/s or higher, or is forecasted to reach this level at the start or during the tour, the section between Nageishi-daira and Hiraishi-Iwaya will be avoided.

Shiratani Unsuikyo Tour

  • If crossing the main stream of Shiratani River is deemed difficult on the outbound journey, the guide will turn back at the mainstream.

  • For areas including Taiko Rock and the primeval forest trail, these will generally be avoided if flooding is expected.

Kayaking & SUP

  • In the event of lightning during kayaking, all participants will be advised to paddle under protective areas including trees or bridges, or walk into the forest for safety. If lightning continues, the tour will be stopped, and participants will return by walking along the bank.

  • If the river appears muddy or the current is stronger than usual before departure, the tour will be canceled.

Stream Climbing

  •  If the monitored water level has shown to have increased in the morning of the tour, stream climbing will be canceled to ensure safety. This decision will be made even if no heavy rain warnings are issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for the Yakushima area.

  • If the water becomes muddy during the tour, all participants will be advised to walk along the riverbank or evacuate into the forest. A change in water clarity is often a sign of a potential flash flood. Multiple factors, such as water transparency and volume, are always watched throughout the trip.

  • Additionally, if the water level rises compared to the starting point, an observation time will be held. After this, the guide will carefully decide whether to resume climbing.
